Looking For Love? Trust In God That He Has A Plan

As Christians, we turn to the Bible to help us navigate our lives, but the Bible is not some wikiHow, there’s no step-by-step guide to finding a partner. God is the God of Love and the Bible is a book of Love, but we’re not talking about romantic love, the love, which dominates our books, our films, the music we listen to. The Bible distinguishes different forms of Love and the greatest Love is Agape, the unconditional Love that God bestows upon us. That is not to say that there is no place for romantic love in Christian life, of course there is, but it is a love which is enclosed within the embrace of God’s Love.

Bible Verses About Love

The Bible has much to say about different kinds of love, but consider what Ecclesiastes has to say about love as partnership.

‘Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?’ Ecclesiastes 4 9-12

Life is easier when we have a companion, someone to pick us up when we fall, to keep us warm at night, but that does not mean that being single is wrong or that we should find a partner at all costs. Saint Paul valued a single life and of course Jesus led a single life; being single is not an aberration. Marriage is often regarded as a necessary condition for everyone to achieve:

‘He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.’ Proverbs 18:22

You cannot, however, schedule an age or time when love will come into your life.

‘Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.’ Psalm 37:4

Read the Bible, pray to God and trust in him.

‘For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ Jeremiah 29:11

Bible Verses About Heartbreak

The loss of love, unrequited love, the pain caused by an absence of love is real and the Bible speaks of this.

‘He heals the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’ Psalm 147:3

You may yearn for love, you may feel emptiness within you that only a loved one can fill, but remember:

‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.’ Psalm 46:1-2

There is no sin in being single, it is a time for reflection and self-improvement, be patient and place your trust in the Lord.
